1 Presentation of the Training Materials
Pat presented an example of the final layout of the materials to the other partners and confirmed the reaction to this layout had been positive in the UK. However, partners were free to adapt as they felt appropriate for their markets.
2 Product Launches
UK – Pat had held a launch organised by the Chamber of Commerce at Gurit and had attended an Education Business Partnership meeting in Hampshire, where there had been a lot of interest for different industry sectors and by a publisher. The Chamber are arranging other events in October and November where the project will feature.
Italy – The product has been launched at several Leonardo meetings as well as Language Trainer Meetings for SICSI and at the Private University of Naples as well as the Language Centre of Naples University, where directors have to make links to industry sectors and are researching English for specific purposes.
Greece – The product was launched at a training conference for industry in March where there was a lot of interest. It was also launched to the Chamber of Commerce, after which there were more hits on the website. In October there will be training seminars in Piraeus and Bucharest, each with around 30 people.
Spain – STUCOM have held a series of meetings with students, parents, trainers and industry and are awaiting feedback from these. LID had presented the dictionary at the Beijing book fair where publishers of language materials were present. They are going to the Frankfurt book fair and will present the dictionary with the training materials.
Germany – The University of Dresden composites sector had piloted the Sales materials and although the feedback had been positive there had been some confusion over the levels as they were mixed level English. The product had been launched to the Chamber of Commerce vocational training department and they were interested in future projects to other industries as Composites as a sector is not as well-defined as in the UK.
3 Review of the Work Packages
The work packages had been generally met. In WP 4 we mention monitoring demand and usage. Maria to print off a list of users of the platform as an indicator. The Dictionary has been delayed as Gurit were a long time in providing their input and confirmation we could use it. This had delayed translations which were still incomplete. The layout was discussed and LID requested transferring around €1,000 of their travel budget into production to enable a more interactive design. We also discussed getting the dictionary proof-read and Pat will contact the Chamber of Commerce for a contact to do this. Lorenzo to also contact University for help.
4 Language Mapping
Pat presented her report on mapping to UK National Standards. She had mapped the Logistics and Production course to Level 1 and Sales to Level 2. Lorenzo presented the CEF. This is recognised in Spain and Germany and most materials now have the level published on the front but do not map each ‘can do’ statement. Lorenzo to establish the CEF level to be added to our material.
As a Leonardo funded project none of the partners are worried about commercialising the product, although LID may produce a hard copy of the dictionary which was not in the original application. After the project is over Pat recommended a selling price for the hard copy materials of £50 as this is what she had estimated they cost to produce. Jeanne recommended the CD Dictionary be sold at €20.
6 Final Evaluation
The External Evaluator presented her findings for the initial assessment and the pilot. Annalisa to provide Pat with a copy of the pilot report. She then presented the final questionnaire for the evaluation of the project overall. Pat had circulated an internal evaluation sheet before the meeting and requested this be returned to her by 30th September.
There had been a lot of feedback from the various launches about new products. Pat had realised that the Logistics and Production course had transferability to other sectors such as breweries, retail delivery etc and only the title of the course needed to be changed. There was also a lot of interest in the course being translated into Polish. The partners brainstormed three areas as follows:
UK – Polish, Czech, French
Spain – Polish
Greece – Turkish
Germany – Swedish, Lithuanian
Italy – Bulgarian, Romanian
Legal agreements and insurance (especially property management)
Additional skills in culture and international selling
Not necessarily just for managers but also people relocating to a country
Add more newspaper articles, reports and newsflashes to increase the level of our current material.
These ideas were narrowed down to 3 possible ways ahead to be researched by each partner by 31st October to establish demand.
A.- Improvement of the Logistics materials adding more listening and speaking exercises and signs and translating into other languages. Possibly adapting it to more transport sectors and adding other intercultural skills.
